The Race was first held in October of 1995 and came at the suggestion of one of Gary’s High School Coaches, Bill Jones. It was his recommendation that an annual race be set up to raise money for a Scholarship in Gary’s Name..

The Rest is History. Over the past 21 years we have funded thirty plus scholarships to some of the most Awesome young Athletes in our area. They have excelled in Academics, their Sport as well as overcoming some Adversity in their young lives. They have been such an inspiration to me over these years and I am forever grateful that Gary’s Coach and Friend Bill Jones had this wonderful idea. Not only does it provide us the opportunity to fund these scholarships but helps keep Gary’s memory alive in the Our Community!

This Community has Loved and Supported me ever since the death of my Husband Gary McAdams during a Home Invasion…..Twenty Two Years Ago this July….I ask that you continue that support so we can continue to help these Awesome young Athletes!

Did I mention the Great Post Race Party at the Sandshaker, Great Food, Drink and an Awesome Band!

From My Heart….

Cecilia McAdams

The recipients of the 2015 scholarships were announced at the Pensacola Sports Association’s Senior Scholar Athlete Banquet. As usual, the two scholar athletes clearly met the award criteria of overcoming adversity in their young lives. Kaitlin Riddell, a cheerleader, and James Kraft, a tennis player gained the approval of selection committee by keeping positive attitudes and never giving up even when life got tough. Both students’ families suffered major damage to their family’s home during the flooding last spring. The water at Kaitlin’s house became so deep that she had to swim out and take refuge on the roof until rescued. James’ family was displaced from their home after the flooding. For James it was only the beginning as his father passed away at the start of this school year. Both Kaitlin and James will graduate from Tate High School this spring. The similarity doesn’t end there as both are active in school, community and church activities. These two young adults clearly showed themselves to be outstanding scholar athletes ready to face what life brings at them.
